India-based Agrim secures $17.3 million in funding to simplify access to agricultural inputs for farmers

India’s agri-input market is a significant contributor to the country’s GDP, but it faces several challenges, including a fragmented market structure and complicated logistics. Agrim, a four-year-old startup, aims to address these discrepancies by building a just-in-time supply chain that helps agri-input retailers buy inputs from manufacturers.

The Problem with India’s Agri-Input Market

India’s agri-input market is different from that of the U.S. and Europe due to its fragmented market structure, diversified demand, and seasonal nature of crops. The sector lacks a robust supply chain, and logistics are complicated in remote geographies where most farmers are located.

Agrim’s Solution

Agrim aims to address these challenges by building a platform that connects retailers with manufacturers and enables just-in-time delivery of agri-inputs. Co-founder Mukul Garg explained the concept: "We want to create a platform that takes orders from retailers and sends them directly to the manufacturing warehouse, reducing inventory costs and increasing efficiency."

Key Features of Agrim’s Platform

Agrim’s platform includes several key features:

  • Minimalistic user interface: The platform is designed to be easy to use for both retailers and manufacturers.
  • Pricing intelligence model: The platform uses algorithms to set prices based on demand and supply, ensuring that retailers get the best possible price.
  • Order management system: The platform allocates a manufacturer to every order and ensures that pickup and delivery timelines are matched.
  • Last-mile delivery: Agrim works with multiple third-party logistics service providers to handle last-mile delivery.

Expansion Plans

Agrim plans to expand its catalog of agri-inputs from over 30,000 items to 150,000 in the next three years. The startup also aims to enter new markets, including southern and western parts of India.

Private Label Agri-Inputs

Agrim is planning to enter into the market of private-label agri-inputs within the next six months. This will enable farmers to get inputs at retail prices instead of paying a premium.

Funding and Growth

Agrim has raised $17.3 million in a new funding round led by Asia Impact. The startup plans to use this funding to expand its operations and reach more retailers and manufacturers.

Key Statistics

  • Number of manufacturers: 1,200
  • Number of retailers: 25,000
  • Number of farmers served: 15 million
  • Revenue generated in the last financial year: Over $36 million
  • Annual revenue run rate: Nearly $60 million

Conclusion

Agrim’s platform has the potential to revolutionize India’s agri-input market by increasing efficiency and reducing costs. With its expansion plans and innovative features, Agrim is poised for significant growth in the coming years.
